Scripture contains dreams. You reading, I imagine, had and have them yourselves. In the Bible, sometimes those dreams really are revelations from God. Joseph interpreted dreams of Pharoah in Egypt and Daniel interpreted dreams of Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. All those dreams were part of the plan of God, validated by certain supernatural confirmation.
I’ve been asked many times through my life the interpretation of other people’s dreams. To start, none of them are a revelation from God. Instead, they are a personal experience coming from the inside of people’s own brains. They can have an effect or impact on the person and God uses them providentially. Since God either allows or causes everything that occurs in the world, that includes dreams people have. Martin Luther King Jr. said in his famous speech on August 28, 1963 at the Washington Monument, “I have a dream.” He called this his “American dream.”
Two nights ago, I had a dream. I’m sure I’ve had thousands of dreams in my lifetime, some more realistic than others. My dream, which I couldn’t remember when it was done, I know was something of a claustrophobic experience. I’m not claustrophobic, but I felt that way and it drew my mind to the afterlife of those who do not know or reject Jesus Christ. I remembered the rich man in Hell in Luke 16 and his torment. This had me then think of the claustrophobic darkness of Hell and the eternal separation. It’s over for anyone there.
This was a dream with a lesson. For anyone, first, examine yourself whether you be in the faith. Then, second, understand the importance of the gospel and the salvation of other men’s souls. It’s so important where they will spend eternity.
