Satan Opposing Israel

God’s covenants with the seed of Abraham are literal, unconditional, and yet to be fully realized. Consequently, Satan’s primary design is the total subversion of God’s kingdom program by seeking to annihilate the Jewish people, thereby attempting to make God’s promises fail. Satan’s designs began with the attempt to pollute the messianic line. The Devil understands that if the natural branches are destroyed, the literal fulfillment of the Davidic Kingdom cannot occur. This is why, in Revelation 12:4, the dragon is seen ready “to devour her child as soon as it was born.”

Satan’s current design involves a two-fold strategy: (1) The Deception of the Nations: He stirs up global animosity against Israel to force a final solution that prevents their national restoration, and (2) The Spiritual Blindness of the People: He ensures that the veil remains over their hearts so they do not recognize their Messiah. Satan seeks to finally cut off the nation Israel so that Christ has no kingdom to return to on earth. As Psalm 83:4 describes the heartbeat of this design: “They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.”

While Satan’s designs are pervasive, they are ultimately futile. The preservation of the Jewish people throughout history is a divine or supernatural providence that thwarts the dragon’s (Satan’s) rage. Despite the adversary’s attempts to cast Israel down, the faithful believer looks to the promise of Romans 11:26: “And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob.” In the end, Satan’s design to destroy the nation Israel will conclude with his own binding, as the King of Kings returns to claim the throne of His father David. All of this visibly manifests God’s sovereign power over His world and the glory of His salvation.
