Impossibility in Evangelism

Very often the salvation of someone’s soul looks like an impossibility. You probably know this, but just to write it, every salvation is impossible; yet, all things are possible with God (Matthew 19:26). The message of salvation is so, so great, doesn’t it seem like everyone would want it? They don’t because of innate rebellion aspect of their sin nature, and the increasing hardness, making it even worse. Maybe you’re thinking, it might not be worth it. It could only offend them, if I tell them. They’re not going to want it – they’ll only get angry with me.
The confidence you need to go ahead and evangelize someone, preach the gospel to him or her, could and should come from trust in the Word of God. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation. When you preach the gospel to someone, God will work in his life. This is how the impossible becomes the possible. You could start off with a number of obstacles, some of them are your own. Maybe you don’t or you’re unwilling to see the horrific nature of someone’s lostness, his separation from God. Rather than concern for his or her soul, you become defensive of the person, justifying his or her rebellion based upon his or her intellectual assent to the existence of God. This is not saving faith or genuine salvation. Jesus will judge us by His Words. True salvation is conversion, where someone becomes a new creature, old things passed away and all things become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Rather than accede to the past salvation of someone who does not show fruit of salvation, true believers should and will show concern for the lost soul. Don’t embrace false assurance from a superficial profession. It won’t stand in the day of judgment. Instead, in a loving way, strive for genuine repentance and faith in Christ.
