A Typical Skeptic of Truth

Someone told me yesterday that no one knows he is going to heaven. No one. He said this with complete certainty and conviction. He knows for sure without a doubt (he says) that he cannot know. He knows he can’t know. If someone reversed that, it would be no one knows for sure that he can’t know.

Of course, I answered this man, “No, that’s not true, you can know with certainty that you have eternal life.” And then I quoted to him, 1 John 5:13. These things have I written that you might know that you have eternal life. God wants us to know. Scripture says we can know and His Word is truth (Jn 17:17).

Then the man said, “The Bible is only written by men.” The key false word in that overly used statement is “only.” The Bible is written by men, but by men with the inspiration of God (2 Tim 3:16-17). That’s how God gave men the Bible was by holy men of God moved by the Holy Spirit to write His Words (2 Pet 1:20-21). I would have liked to have continued discussing this with this man, but he said that he didn’t want to talk. Again he said, no one knows, you don’t know, but at the same time, he didn’t want to talk to us.

On the other hand, this above skeptic said he was a good person who raised good children. He knew that for sure. He had certainty about how good he was and his children were. Based on what standard does he know these two very important points? He would not have liked that question.

From the beginning Satan attacked the Word of God and he also uses men to do that. The goal is taking away the authority of scripture with men. Then they can live like they want and do what they want without the mitigating influence of scripture.
